Product Owner

Join the dynamic Enterprise Data & Platform team at Boehringer Ingelheim, where we collaborate across all business units to create innovative, data-driven solutions. Our international, cross-functional teams work closely with domain experts to unlock the full potential of data for our business.

As the Lead Business Consultant and EDGC (Enterprise Data Global Catalogue) Product Owner, you will collaborate with a diverse range of vendors and suppliers. Together, you will deliver high-quality services through our Enterprise Cloud Data ecosystem: BI Dataland . Your role will be pivotal in ensuring that our corporate Data Catalogue solution transforms data assets into new ideas and initiatives, all while maintaining compliance and security.

This exciting role can be filled in either Germany or Spain.

Tasks & responsibilities

• Manage the product's prioritized backlog, ensuring its transparency, visibility, and understanding for the agile team. This will involve constant refinement with your team and stakeholders, keeping small and valuable increments at the top.

• Software development activities within an Agile mindset. Regular communication with the development teams will be key, ensuring the product increment aligns with the conveyed vision. Part of your duties will include effective negotiation, setting correct expectations, and explaining the functionality the teams are working on.

• Maximize the value of the agile team's efforts through analysis, research, and other necessary work. Respecting the development team's ownership of the "HOW" will be crucial, and this may sometimes impact priorities. Quality will be a non-negotiable standard that you must uphold.

• Be entrusted with the task of tracking the metrics and indicators throughout the product lifecycle. Your strength in standing firm and diplomatically declining requests or suggestions that do not align with the product's vision or scope will be highly valued. Your ability to prioritize tasks in sync with the company's strategy and objectives will be essential.

• Finally, you will contribute to Product Owners' synchronization sessions to align work cadence, releases, and the overall ecosystem vision. You will have the decision-making power to set product priorities, going beyond being a mere "command executor" or "proxy".

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or comparable experience

• International professional experience in IT is highly desirable, bonus points if you have worked in the pharmaceutical industry

• Multiple years working experience as an interface between internal and external business partners and the ability to connect and collaborate

• At least 3 years of experience as a Product Owner, particularly with data-driven or data-intelligence products is needed as well as experience with Agile Product Development principles and methods

• Familiarity with tools like JIRA, AWS, Collibra, and concepts like Data Management and Data Governance

• Demonstrated project management skills, especially in implementing complex projects or cross-functional IT programs

• An analytical mindset is crucial to distil complex information and commitment to continuous improvement

• Clear communication of product vision and technical matters to a diverse audience and the ability to build consensus are essential

• Availability to travel occasionally (approx. 20% of the time)

• Excellent communication skills in English
