Job Description Summary

Role Summary/Purpose:

The Japan Marketing and Strategy Director is a key leader position with responsibility to develop the strategic direction/framework aligned with business objectives - profitable revenue growth and Install Base (IB) gain. This role reports directly to Japan Commercial Excellence General Manager (GM).

The incumbent will activate & optimize zone segmentation & go-to-market strategy, deliver integrated business insights about market, share and coverage, develop pricing guidelines, and coordinate and/or manage execution of marketing plans. The position holder coordinates implementation through Strategic Business Units (SBU) GMs, Finance and Commercial Operations.

The role is a key point of contact between Japan and International Marketing & Strategy team providing market & competitive insights as well as Japan’s priorities and performance.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide key inputs into Strategy Reviews and resource planning, including market sizing, and forecasting and investment requirements.

  • Identify drivers of strength and weakness in market, competitive intelligence/ competitor strategies, and underlying themes to explain commercial performance and areas for targeting countermeasures.

  • Validate growth opportunities by conducting deep research and analysis on critical and prioritized problems, including market dynamics, customer behavior, unmet needs and best practice case studies.

  • Review and analyze direct salesforce landscape and coverage (e.g., portfolio, territory, customer segmentation). Develop and recommend optimal GTM model in collaboration with business leaders.

  • Set pricing guidelines and review/monitor pricing initiatives across modalities.

  • Develop digital marketing strategy and execute digital promotions.

  • Lead, coordinate and manage key Exhibits and Seminars (e.g., ITEM).

  • Establish KPIs to measure effectiveness of marketing activity in the zone, coordinate marketing budget decisions across portfolios/initiatives; understand sales support needs and ensuring feedback loops inform campaign and asset development.

  • Frequently collaborate with Commercial Operations, Finance, and other relevant divisions to identify potential growth adjacencies that can deliver operating margin growth.

  • Directly supervise a team of Marketing professionals, provide coaching/mentorship for talent development.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degrees in marketing, business administration, healthcare or related field

  • Minimum 8-10 years working experience in marketing, sales, strategy, healthcare medical devices, pharma industry, or related fields.

  • Strong people leadership experience and servant leadership mindset.

  • Experience of working in complex business environments with strong influencing and conflict resolution abilities

  • Innovation: develop new ideas through collaboration and execute on creative ideas

  • The ability to work with others in a potentially ambiguous, fast paced environment, including all levels of GE internal staff and distribution partners, and clients.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and project management skills

  • Coaching and mentoring experience

  • Fluency in English – verbal and written communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or master’s degree in marketing, Business Administration, Economics or related field

  • Deep marketing expertise in strategy, market analysis, product launch and product commercialization, and branding

  • Strong influencing skills across business functions, confidence to share difficult messages and defend decisions and make judgment call.

  • Exceptional skills as a change agent and process oriented individual.
